Back at it again...
Hello!
I'm surprising myself by actually writing another post!
I had a very exciting weekend, I'll tell you what.
First of all, L came and jumped my car for me on my Saturday, which I was very grateful for. We both went to Dutch beforehand and they bought me a drink so we could both get the free patches that they were giving out that day.
Then I took my car through the carwash with L, and got to enjoy all the pretty colors in the foam they use. It definitely didn't clean my car all the way but it looks a lot shiner then it did and I think that's pretty good.
Then, after dropping L back off at home, I took my car on some more drive time down to the local Joannes. That was the first time I've been since they announced they're closing, and it was pretty wiped. I needed some little cord stops for the doughnut I was planning on making for Hades (my cat), for when he gets his neuter done in the next week or so.
Luckily they still had some left, and I was able to snag a package of them. A couple hours and $30 later, I finally left the Lotus Hotel Joannes...
I picked up a few notions I know I'll use, some supplies for a new project I've already started work on as I write this, the aforementioned cord stops, and some blue ribbon I don't think I'll use after all.
I had bought it to wrap the (ugly) cords to the sconces in the living room, but they ended up looking like blue candy cane cords... Maybe I'll just tie some long droopy bows on the bottom and call it a day.
Then, I did an entire grocery shopping trip, came home, and did some speed cleaning before I had guests over.
That evening, L and R came over again to play Magic until pretty late at night. I ended up getting my "tired cramps" right at the very end, but I had a ton of fun anyway. L even let me play a game piloting their bling deck, and I nearly won a game with my Autumn Sovern precon. I need to work on my horror deck... Very underpowered compared to L and R's stuff.
The next day I had all to myself, and I didn't get nearly as much cleaning done as I wanted to. Usually one of my weekend days I spend most of it vacuuming, doing laundry, and wiping down surfaces I don't normally get to during the week. This weekend was mostly only laundry.
Instead, I spent way more time then I expected making Hades his little doughnut collar. (I was planning on making two, but only did one so far.) Turns out I'm not nearly as good at sewing stretch fabrics as I am woven ones. Took me almost half an hour to find the correct settings on my machine, and I still had to sew very slowly as to not warp the fabric or run off the edge.
Stretch fabrics you also can't really finger-press or fold into position as you sew. So I also had to use a combination of lots of pins and basting to hold everything in place long enough to run it under the machine. Eesh.
I listened to the entire 3.5 hour long "King in Yellow" Wendigoon video essay during, along with several episodes of Distractible. At least I was entertained.
Thankfully after all that, it does in fact fit my cat, and he seems pretty unbothered by wearing it. Success!
Here's a photo of him sleeping with it on
Now I just need to make another one, so I can have one in the wash while he's wearing the other one. Both J and R have mentioned their cats' "cones" getting pretty narsty after a day or two.
Then, after having completed the first project, and not immediately wanting to make a second one, I started in on my new project! (Instead of cleaning like I probably should've.) Oh well! Shiny new fabric just waiting to be cut into!! Special interest go brrrrr
I'm hoping to upload a full post on the making-of, but heres some sneak peak photos. I'm attempting to replicate a favorite sports bra, but with cotton knit instead of horrible sweat-inducing polyester. I have a vendetta against plastic clothing if you didn't already know.
I'm also going to attempt to put some cotton flannel in the front, almost as replacement foam cups. Because the ghosty fabric, despite being decent quality, would definitely not do much to hide any say, lumps or bumps in the front.
I'm worried that this may make it not fit in the chest anymore, because the flannel would make that bit not stretch, but I guess we'll have to find out. I can always rip out the flannel after the fact, and I definitely have enough fabric to make probably another two or so bras. Though I also was debating cloning some of my polyester boxer shorts with the fabric too...
One project at a time.
I certainly did a lot this weekend! Especially for me..
Thank you, Imaginary Readers, for reading, and hello again to my distant future self.
Bye for now,
Sam
